Is
it hard to make a belly cast?
No.
It is incredibly simple and in just 30 minutes you will have created
your own unique work of art. We provide easy-to-follow instructions
written in English, French and Spanish.
When
do most Moms make a belly cast?
Most
moms make their belly casts anywhere between 34 to 36 weeks of pregnancy
but we have had some that have made them as early as 30 weeks of
pregnancy and some as late as full-term. It really is a matter of
personal preference. Our best advice is not to wait too long because
babies have a way of coming early sometimes!
Will
it harm my baby or irritate my skin to make a belly cast?
All
of the products included in our kit are safe and non-toxic. In addition,
the casting material conforms to the health requirements of ASTM-D4236
and requires no additional labeling as mandated by the Labeling
of Hazardous Art Materials Act (LHAMA). Click here
to review all the information regarding the products we chose to
include in our kit. If you still have any specific concerns about
making a belly cast, you should talk to your doctor.
Does
it hurt to make a belly cast?
Not
at all. We provide our specially formulated all-natural belly casting lubricant as part of our ProudBody
Pregnancy Belly Cast Kit. You apply the all-natural lubricant over
the portion of your body you would like to cast and as the cast
dries, it pulls away easily from your skin. We had used Vaseline® for years in our kits but made the switch to Belly Rub as we believe it is simply
the best product available to make the belly casting process comfortable for mom.
Our all-natural belly casting lubricant provides an excellent barrier between mom’s skin and the casting material so the belly cast is easy to remove from mom’s skin after it has dried. Plus, our Belly Rub is body and earth-friendly.
Our all-natural belly casting lubricant is made of all-natural ingredients: Beeswax, cocoa butter, olive oil and vitamin E. It is easily washed from mom’s skin once her belly cast has been removed or she can allow it absorb into her skin. It is so much easier to remove than messy Vaseline but it provides the same excellent barrier protection!
What
can I do with my finished ProudBody Pregnancy Belly Cast?
How
you decorate your finished ProudBody Pregnancy Belly Cast depends
on your taste. You can leave it in its original form and hang it
up as a wall decoration in your bedroom or in your baby's nursery
(you can easily poke a couple of holes in the top and thread a pretty
ribbon through the holes) or you can apply gesso (acrylic priming
paint) and then finish or embellish it as you desire.
Some ideas for decorating include applying sequins, feathers, dried
flowers, photographs or small, pretty, cut stones or glass. You
also can wait to decorate it until after your baby is born and apply
paint to your baby's hands and feet and put the prints on your belly
cast. When your baby is old enough, you could even decorate it together.
You could even have it bronzed. Your imagination is truly the limit.

& decorating tips page and belly
cast gallery page for decorating ideas and lots of pictures

Why
don't you include gesso or paints in your kit?
We
decided not to include gesso or paints in our kit because there
are so many different ways to decorate a belly cast besides painting.
Some moms like to leave them in their original white form for a
simple, yet elegant look while others like to decoupage, tile or
hot glue items to their casts. So, to keep our price economical
and to not have you pay for something you might not want or use,
we decided not to included finishing materials in our kit.
What
types of paint should I use to paint my belly cast?
If
you decide to paint your belly cast once it dries, we recommend
the use of either acrylic or latex paints. Either type of paint
is readily available at your local craft store. You should also
apply a layer of gesso (acrylic priming paint) and allow it to dry
before painting your belly cast. Gesso seals your belly cast and
prepares the surface for painting. We recommend the use of a sponge
brush to apply the gesso. Cheaper bristle brushes have the tendency
to lose their bristles on the surface of the belly cast.
What
is gesso and when should I use it?
Gesso
is also called acrylic priming paint. It is readily available at
your local craft store. You should apply a layer of gesso and allow
it to dry if you want to paint your belly cast. Some moms who decide
to leave their belly casts white also apply a layer of gesso to
seal it. Gesso has the consistency and look of Elmer's Glue and
dries clear.

What
makes your paints safe to use?
We selected to partner with SNAZAROO, one of the best face and body painting companies in the world, to manufacture our pregnancy belly painting kit. SNAZAROO manufactures its products using FDA compliant materials and processes that would provide FDA compliance (and their international counterparts). Their painting products are regulated as a cosmetic good and are just as safe (or more so) as something you would find at an upscale cosmetic counter. They do not use any materials in their products that could cause harm. Their factory and manufacturing procedures are also FDA compliant and have been inspected by appropriate federal staff. In addition, they keep FDA approved records to insure the safest manufacturing procedures. Never use any product on your body that does not specifically say it is FDA compliant and safe for use on your skin. They use no ingredients that do not meet cosmetic guidelines both in the United States and the European Community. They also avoid ingredients that can substantially increase the risk of allergic reaction, such as fragrances. You know if you are using SNAZAROO that every measure for safety has been made.
SNAZAROO have spent tens of thousands of dollars in safety testing our products. All of these tests have been done by FDA approved, independent labs both in the USA and in Europe. In routine inspections by the FDA and other international agencies, they have proven time and time again to comply with FDA and child safety guidelines.
ProudBaby Questions
What
is ProudBaby?
ProudBaby is our collection of baby keepsake products targeted at today's contemporary parent. These quality products provide parents easy do-it-yourself clay impression kits so that they can create a special keepsake of their child's little fingers and toes to cherish forever.
What makes your ProudBaby clay impression kits different than others available on the market?
We spent a lot of time testing current products on the market and wanted to improve upon certain areas. Each of our ProudBaby Kits contains soft, pliable air-drying clay. Our non-toxic clay is safe and easy to use to capture those precious little hands and feet. You won't believe the detailed impression you can make! After 1-2 days, the clay dries into an unbreakable, stone-like material.
The clay is safe for baby's skin and conforms to the health requirements of ASTM D-4236.
Our memory tin and hanging keepsake kit have the following key features:
• Air-drying clay--no baking is required.
• True clay consistency, not spongy like other types of air-drying clay. The spongy material has a tendency to curl up around the edges as it dries.
• No mixing of messy plaster and the worry about whether the plaster is too wet or too dry to make the impression.
• Capture TWO prints with one kit.
• BONUS-Writing tool included in memory tin to write baby's name and birthday in the clay.
These kits are fail-proof. Since the clay doesn't dry immediately, if the first time you don't take a good print of baby's hand and foot, you can roll out the clay again and take another print.
